The
preservation of the exceptional area of the Island Saint
Honorat is the result of a fragile balance that can only
be maintained if the level of frequenting is compatible with
the environment.
The monks of the Lérins’
abbey, landowners of the Island Saint Honorat for the
last sixteen centuries, preserve the quality of this
environment close to the city of Cannes, by :
| - |
Protecting the natural forest area on the whole of the island. Their activity has contributed in making this place one of the last exploited domains of the Alpes-Maritimes’ littoral. |
| - |
The maintenance of a unique architectural heritage offering in itself testimonies of our history and culture from the Sixth to the Nineteenth century. |
| - |
The upholding of a tradition based on the greeting, hospitality and serenity. |
| This site is at present threatened by the degradations and effects on the environment caused by the uncontrolled frequentation of tourists.
In order to allow the protection of this environment, as it has been in the past, I trust the action of the monks of Lérins, legitimate defenders of this protected site and its fragile balance.
